An independent curator based in Minneapolis, I have a BA in Art History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an MA in Art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas from the Sainsbury Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.
My work focuses on makers and material culture, particularly the ways in which culture and its artifacts act upon us - the influence of both making and receiving.
I view the museum exhibition as a communicative device and recognize that, as Curator and Art Historian Latanya Autry says: "museums are not neutral." Neither are the materials in the collection.
What do we want to say? How do we say it? But before we answer those questions, we have to ask: Who do we want to say it with?
I'm interested in how doing the work of interpretation "in public" and with others, might yield creative partnerships and expand what's possible.
